All-new Kia Sorento to make Malaysian debut at KLIMS ‘10

The Korean assault continues, and the next salvo is set to be fired by Naza-Kia, who will be unveiling the all-new Kia Sorento for our market at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2010 (KLIMS ‘10). Prices have not been indicated as of now, but we expect a competitive figure.

Like it compatriot, the Hyundai Santa Fe facelift which will also launch at KLIMS ‘10, the Sorento will be powered by the Hyundai-Kia 2.4-litre Theta-II engine rated to produce 172hp and 226Nm in this iteration. Unfortunately, there is no mention of the hugely impressive R-series diesel motor which Hyundai will offer with the Santa Fe in Naza-Kia’s announcement.

Unlike its predecessor, this new smarter-looking Sorento will no longer be sitting on a ladder frame but instead gets a monocoque chassis with all-round independent suspension. It still has a four-wheel drive system, so some (but markedly reduced) off-road prowess is presumably retained.

Like all recent Korean offerings, equipment levels are generous, and potential buyers can expect items such as push-button start ignition with a smart key, supervision cluster (Kia’s version of Optitron), in-dash 6CD changer, AUX, USB and iPod connectivity, Bluetooth connectivity and dual-zone climate control to head a lengthy list. Safety is taken care of by six airbags, ABS, ESC, and EBD. There is also Hill Start Assist Control and Downhill Brake Control to provide aid going up and down slopes.
