Peugeot 208 set for 2012 debut

Change is the only constant is the motto by which the world functions. And it’s much the same with the world of automobiles. Keeping up with the times Peugeot has announced the replacement of their 207 with the 208. The new car is a modern upgrade keeping with the times. The 208 Peugeot say is a true leap that represents a generation gap between it and the car it replaces. Peugeot has taken the ingredients that have made the 208’s successors like the 205, 206, 207 such a hit and incorporated them into the 208 so as to create a car that lives up to its lineage.

The term that Peugeot use to define the evolution of the 208 is, ‘re-generate’ so as to capture the essence of where the 208 comes from. The 208 is lighter than the 207 by 110 kgs while being more aerodynamic and compact. The 208 is aimed at greater agility and efficiency than the car it replaces. And if you were beginning to wonder about interior space worry no more as the 208 manages to shove in more rear seat space, leg space and boot space than the 207. The instruments and controls on the dashboard have been redesigned to be clear and intuitive.

The car has also been contemporarily styled while keeping with the signature Peugeot design trademarks. On the outside with its floating grille, light signature and ‘boomerang’ tail lights and traditional Peugeot design ensure that the 208 keeps up with the Peugeot line-up. The 208 will be powered by a pair of three cylinder 1.0 liter and 1.2 liter petrol engines, there will also be a diesel engine and virtually all versions will come with a micro-hybrid Stop & Start system.

With cars like the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Fiesta Hatchback (which are its competitors) expected in India next year and Peugeot setting up shop here in India, the 208 may also be India bound.
